Inside the Live Room: Cutting a Full Band in One Take

Microphone stands glowing under orange stage lights

Last month we put a five-piece band in the live room, rolled tape, and didn't stop until the song was over. Three full passes, no punches. The third one is the record.

The setup was simple on purpose: drums in the middle, bass and guitars facing inward, horns on the riser. Gobos gave us just enough separation to balance later without killing the bleed that makes it feel like one performance.

Two lessons worth stealing. First, the headphone mix is the performance — we spent forty minutes on it and saved hours of takes. Second, record the talkback. The count-in laugh before take three is staying in the intro.

Full session photos and the mic list are pinned in the studio; ask at your next session and we'll walk you through the exact setup.
