Running Backing Vocals Through Vintage Guitar Pedals

Singer giving an emotional vocal performance indoors

The widest backing vocals on our latest sessions didn't come from a plug-in. They came from a $90 spring reverb tank and a tape echo older than everyone in the room.

The chain: print the harmony stack dry, reamp it through the pedals, and record the result on two room mics panned hard. Blend to taste under the dry stack and the vocals suddenly live in a physical space.

Start with short springs and long predelay so the words stay intelligible. Push the echo until it ghosts, then back off ten percent. That's the setting. It works on rap ad-libs too — try it on the next session and thank us later.

Curious how it sounds on your song? Book a mix and ask for the pedal treatment.
