Four players, one room, no net
The quartet set up in a circle, sightlines open, and played each side of the record as a continuous set. What you hear is what happened — no punches, no comps, no fixes.
Mars plays like someone reading a letter they just found. The rhythm section answers in real time, and the tape caught all of it: the breath, the valves, the room tone between phrases.

How it was recorded
Ribbon microphones on every horn, a tube overhead on the kit, and the upright bass on a single large-diaphragm condenser. The whole band bled into everything — exactly as intended.
Mastering engineer kept the dynamics wide and the noise floor honest. The 180g pressing was cut at half speed so the quiet passages stay quiet and the loud ones stay startling.
